(BBC Sport) Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder described Rhian Brewster as "one of the country's hottest properties" after signing the striker from Liverpool. The 20-year-old has joined the Blades on a five-year contract for a club-record deal worth £23.5m. The package for the England Under-21 forward includes a buy-back option for three years and the Reds will get 15% of any sell-on fee. "He has been our number one target," said Wilder. "At the top of the pitch we have one of the country's hottest properties from Liverpool and for him to sign permanently here is fantastic for everyone concerned. He's a natural goalscorer. He finishes from any aspect, whether it is in the air or whether it's spectacular goals, free-kicks or off his shin - he has a lovely habit of scoring goals, which is crucial in the Premier League." Brewster helped England win the Under-17 World Cup in 2017 and scored 11 goals in 22 appearances while on loan at Swansea City last season. The Blades are yet to score in three Premier League games this season. Several English top-flight clubs - including Aston Villa, Brighton, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Newcastle United - had enquired about signing Brewster on loan. He won the Golden Boot with eight goals at the Under-17 World Cup, playing in an England team alongside Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden and Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho. "There were a few teams who came in but right now Sheffield United is the best option for me," said Brewster. "Looking at the club, it is on the rise, finishing ninth last year and hopefully it can be better this season. "Maybe I can add some goals - I'll work hard and try and help the team to a higher place this year. "I am ready to come in and show everyone what I've got. It is a team that creates a lot of chances, the three at the back, overlapping, they get crosses into the box and that's my game - being in the box, finding space and one- and two-touch finishes. That's what I am going to try and do, and try and score goals for Sheffield United." Brewster has recovered well after suffering a serious ankle injury in January 2018 which ruled him out for the rest of that season. The forward has made four Liverpool appearances, three in 2019-20 cup competitions and once as a substitute in the penalty shootout defeat by Arsenal in this season's Community Shield. "He couldn't make it here so far but he has made big steps in his development," said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. "Rhian was really seriously injured and first we had to make sure he was ready again for all the demands of professional football and he is, 100%. When you are younger, [it is important] a player like Rhian in this position now makes the next steps and uses the time he lost during the serious injury - so it is possible a move to another club makes sense." United's previous record signing was the £22m they paid for Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge from Belgian side Genk in January. Blades forward Lys Mousset is out injured while Oli Burke is yet to get off the mark since he arrived as part of a swap deal with Callum Robinson, who has scored twice for this new side West Brom this season. David McGoldrick is seen as a link-up player and only scored twice in the Premier League last season. Wilder's side, who are 19th in the Premier League, have a tough run of upcoming fixtures. They travel to Arsenal on Sunday before a trip to champions Liverpool on 24 October and they then host Manchester City a week later.

(The Guardian) West Ham believe that their attempted £30m move for Saïd Benrahma could still happen despite the deal running into complications because of a sticking point between the winger and his current club Brentford. David Moyes is keen to strengthen his attack and West Ham, who have also bolstered their defence by signing Craig Dawson on a season-long loan from Watford, have agreed to pay an initial £25m plus £5m in add-ons to sign Benrahma. While the deal has stalled in the last 24 hours, the east Londoners remain confident that the Algerian will join them. West Ham could revive their interest in Bournemouth’s Joshua King if the transfer falls through and it is believed that the delay has been caused by a disagreement between Benrahma and Brentford. However West Ham, who are yet to discuss personal terms with the player, remain hopeful that the 25-year-old will be in position to have a medical on Wednesday. The Hammers ramped up their interest in Benrahma, who was one of the standout players in the Championship last season, and had a £13m bid for King rejected on Sunday. Bournemouth are holding out for £17.5m for the forward, who is out of contract next summer. King wants to return to the Premier League following Bournemouth’s relegation and West Ham have not ruled out making an improved offer for the Norway international. West Ham, who signed the Czech Republic right-back Vladimir Coufal for £5.4m from Slavia Prague earlier this month, have focused more on outgoings this window. They raised funds by selling Grady Diangana to West Brom for £18m and made further space on their wage bill by loaning Felipe Anderson to Porto last week. However business in the opposite direction has been slow. Moyes was keen to sign a commanding centre-back after selling Diangana, a winger, and switched his focus to Dawson after missing out on a host of targets. Dawson wanted to leave Watford following their relegation to the Championship and the 30-year-old will give West Ham experienced cover in defence. Moyes said: “It’s no secret that we have been trying to add more quality to the squad in defensive positions, not only for the longer-term but also to ensure we are well protected right now, and the opportunity to bring in Craig on loan was an addition that will make the group stronger through this period.”

(BBC Sport) West Ham have signed Algeria winger Said Benrahma from Brentford in a deal that could rise to £30m. Benrahma, 25, joins on loan for £5m but the Hammers have an obligation to make the transfer permanent for £20m, with a further £5m possible in add-ons. He completed the first part of his medical on Thursday but an issue had arisen, which was resolved in time for the deal to go ahead on Friday. Benrahma said he had joined a "massive" and "historic" club in West Ham. He added: "I like this prospect [of playing in the Premier League]. I play football to enjoy myself first and foremost, but it's always enjoyable to know you're joining the most-watched league in the world, so I am definitely looking forward to showing what I can do. West Ham is a historic club, which has been in the Premier League for a very long time. It included and still includes good players. It is a massive club in England." Manager David Moyes said: "We have been looking to bring in players who are hungry and determined to progress and get better. "Said is an exciting talent with a lot of ability and the right qualities, who will complement the other attacking players we have at the club." Benrahma, who will wear the number nine shirt at London Stadium, scored 17 goals in 43 Championship appearances last season as Brentford reached the play-off final. The Bees signed Benrahma from French club Nice for less than £3m two years ago. Although the transfer window closed on 5 October for Premier League clubs to sign players from abroad, they were allowed to conduct business with Football League teams until 17:00 BST on Friday.

(BBC Sport) Tottenham have signed Wales centre-back Joe Rodon from Swansea on a five-year deal for an initial £11m plus add-ons. Rodon, 22, made 54 appearances for the Championship club having made his Swans debut during the 2018-19 campaign. He started all three of Wales' matches during the international break to take his tally to seven caps. Rodon is Spurs' seventh signing of the season and he joins compatriots Ben Davies and Gareth Bale, who re-signed for Tottenham on loan from Real Madrid. Rodon's arrival adds depth to Spurs' defence, which has seen the departures of centre-backs Jan Vertonghen to Benfica and Juan Foyth to Villarreal on loan. Although the transfer window closed on 5 October for Premier League clubs to sign players from abroad, they were allowed to conduct business with Football League teams until 17:00 BST on Friday.

(BBC Sport) West Brom and Burnley played out the first goalless draw in the Premier League this season, with both teams still searching for a first win. Filip Krovinovic almost gave hosts West Brom the lead inside three minutes but he dragged a shot wide of the right post, before debutant Karlan Grant had a goal disallowed for offside. But Burnley had the better chances at The Hawthorns on Monday - Chris Wood crashing a header against the crossbar and Ashley Barnes forcing keeper Sam Johnstone into a good save in the second half. Matheus Pereira's volley was kept out at the near post by Clarets' keeper Nick Pope and West Brom defender Branislav Ivanovic also came close as both teams pushed for a winner. The result means Burnley have their first point but they remain in the bottom three after four games, with promoted West Brom ahead by one point. (BBC Sport) Wolves' win at Leeds United, which moved them into sixth in the Premier League, was a "massive result" according to defender Conor Coady. After losing two of their first three games of the season, Nuno Espirito Santo's side have now won their past two, although Coady said it was difficult to achieve this victory, decided by a 70th-minute deflected Raul Jimenez strike. "It was a massive result for us, we knew how tough it would be," he said. "They were fantastic last season and play at 100mph, but we stuck at our plan. It's hard to get after them, you have to play with your brain." Although Leeds dominated the opening period, the visitors were in charge from the final minute of the half when Daniel Podence's shot was saved. "They were very attacking, we looked at that and then we got a bit of control in the second half," Coady added to Sky Sports. In only the second top-flight Elland Road meeting between these two famous old clubs since 1981, Wolves were well on top by the time Jimenez took the ball across field from the right flank after 70 minutes, before checking inside to shoot from the edge of the box. Kalvin Phillips tried to block the Mexican's effort but only succeeded in heading into the opposite corner, leaving goalkeeper Illan Meslier stranded and unable to stop Jimenez netting his third goal of the season. Wolves thought they had scored earlier in the half when Roman Saiss lashed home Podence's cross, but after taking guidance from VAR Michael Oliver, referee David Coote ruled it out for offside. Though close, it was the right call. It certainly created far less controversy than the incident the pair were involved in on Saturday when - with Oliver in charge and Coote at Premier League HQ - they deemed Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford did not deserve a red card after injuring Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk with a reckless challenge.

(BBC Sport) Leeds United ended Aston Villa's winning start and ruined their chance of going top of the Premier League thanks to a brilliant Patrick Bamford hat-trick. Villa came into Friday's game having won their first four games of a league campaign for the first time since 1930-31, but three expert finishes from the Leeds striker prevented the hosts making it a club record five victories on the spin to open their season. The result lifts Leeds to third - their highest position at the end of a day in the division since September 2002. It was reward for a relentlessly positive performance from an injury-hit visiting side that should probably have yielded more goals. In the first-half, Bamford missed with a header and then side-footed wide after being found by Jack Harrison's low cross at the end of swift counter-attacking move. Leeds' record signing Rodrigo was also guilty of spurning good opportunities, slicing one shot wide before seeing an effort blocked by Ezri Konsa. Dean Smith's Villa team, who had put seven goals past champions Liverpool in their previous home game, saw a Jack Grealish shot cleared off the line by Luke Ayling after the ball had fallen to the midfielder from Trezeguet's miscued shot. Villa's captain also went close with a saved effort from close range after he had shown great tenacity and skill to carry the ball from within his own half. But Bamford had the decisive say, finding the corner of the net from just a few yards out after Emiliano Martinez had palmed out Rodrigo's low shot. If his first was simple, his second and third were stunning - a rising effort into the top corner from 20 yards after he was found by Mateusz Klich on 67 minutes and a dug out, curling finish following Helder Costa's low ball seven minutes later. Leeds are now two points and a place behind Villa, who remain second, a point behind leaders Everton.

[url=https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/54696151[/url] Former Tottenham and Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm has announced his retirement at the age of 37. Vorm began his career with Utrecht in 2005, making 159 appearances, before moving to Swansea in 2011, where he spent three seasons. The Dutchman made 48 appearances in two spells with Spurs, from 2014-19, then last season when he returned in October following an injury to Hugo Lloris. Vorm also won 15 international caps for the Netherlands from 2008-14. He was part of the Netherlands squad that lost the 2010 World Cup final to Spain, and was also in the squad that finished third four years later in Brazil. "I am grateful to have been able to play for all these clubs and I am honoured to have been able to represent my country in international tournaments," Vorm said. "I am immensely grateful to be a part of such a great history."

(BBC Sport) Karlan Grant scored his first goal for West Brom to rescue a point and deny a frustrated Brighton their first home win of the season. In only his second game since joining from Huddersfield Town less than two weeks ago, Grant collected a low cross from Callum Robinson and crafted space before firing home an equaliser with seven minutes remaining. The finish cancelled out Jake Livermore's first-half own goal, which arrived when Branislav Ivanovic desperately slammed the ball in off his team-mate with Brighton's Neil Maupay lurking. Brighton restricted West Brom to shots from range but after Matheus Pereira had twice gone close for the away side, Grant powered home from 12 yards. The point leaves Brighton 16th in the Premier League, two points above West Brom who sit 17th and are still without a league win since being promoted. (BBC Sport) Son Heung-min and Harry Kane linked up yet again for the only goal as Tottenham claimed a fortunate win away to Burnley. Kane headed Erik Lamela's pass into the path of Son, who headed home Spurs' first effort on target. That is the 29th time the pair have combined for a Premier League goal, while Son is now the division's leading scorer with eight. Burnley were unfortunate to lose with Ashley Barnes having a goal ruled out for offside and Kane clearing a James Tarkowski header off the line. Ashley Westwood and Johann Gudmundsson also forced Hugo Lloris into saves. Sean Dyche's Clarets remain in the relegation zone on one point, while Spurs move up from 11th to fifth.

(BBC Sport) Teenager Rayan Ait-Nouri scored on his Wolves debut as Nuno Espirito Santo's side moved joint top of the Premier League with a deserved victory over Crystal Palace at Molineux. The France Under-21 left-back, 19, joined the club on a season-long loan - with an option to buy - from Ligue 1 Angers this month and took just 18 minutes to announce himself with a first-time strike from Cheikhou Kouyate's headed clearance. Portuguese winger Daniel Podence doubled the hosts' advantage nine minutes later, carefully guiding in Pedro Neto's cross at the back post. "For Rayan Ait Nouri I am really pleased because it is the first game and what a better start can he have?" said Wolves manager Nuno. "He is 19 with a lot of things to improve. He has to get so many things on board and that's the work." On moving into the top three, he added: "It's all about the performance, the table is not important. The work is important. Playing without fans requires a lot of focus, we haven't the edge of Molineux." Wolves went close to more first-half joy as Nelson Semedo and Leander Dendoncker narrowly missed with efforts from outside the box, while the video assistant referee denied Palace a lifeline from the penalty spot when Patrick van Aanholt was found to be offside, prior to being felled by Willy Boly. Palace were much improved after the break but a frustrated Wilfried Zaha had a penalty appeal dismissed and a disappointing night for Roy Hodgson's side was compounded when Luka Milivojevic was shown a red card for a tackle on Joao Moutinho in the closing stages. Referee Martin Atkinson watched the incident back on the pitchside monitor, but Hodgson said: "My view is it's not a sending-off and I've told Martin Atkinson that." A fourth victory from seven games moved Wolves up to third in the standings, level on 13 points with Everton and Liverpool who both have a game in hand.
